Mattanawcook baseball stays undefeated with extra inning win at Foxcroft

In a battle of the top two teams in the current MPA Class C North baseball standings, Mattanawcook won a thrilling 4-2 battle with Foxcroft in 10 innings.

Each team scored one run in the first inning. The Ponies took the lead on a Josh Knapp sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lynx responded quickly when Tyler Mahaney ripped a double to score a run. Lucas Sands for Foxcroft and Isaac Ritchie for Mattanawcook got the game to extra innings. Sands struck out 11 in 4.2 innings for the Ponies. Ritchie pitched four shutout innings for the Lynx to earn the win.

Hayden Strout had a double and triple for the Ponies. Thomas Day and Knapp also had two hits each. Calvin Landry reached base three times. Landry started on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on nine hits, while striking out four in 5.1 innings. Sands allowed two runs. Foxcroft (5-2) will be at Dexter on Wednesday in a game that can be seen live on Eastern Maine Sports.

Ritchie reached base four times, including two hits for the Lynx. Avery Jordan and Mahaney also had two hits. James Trott started on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks, while striking out five. Jordan earned the save, pitching a scoreless 10th inning working around two base runners and striking out the side. Mattanawcook moves to 7-0.
