At the USCAA Small World Series in Dubois, Pennsylvania on Tuesday- The SMCC softball team improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a win over #1 seed Salem University, while CMCC baseball had their season come to an end with a loss in their second elimination game of the day to Penn State Schuylkill.
In the softball game- SMCC got two RBI from Sloan Scotvold, and another strong pitching performance in the circle from Sarah Wilkins in a 7-2 victory over top seed Salem University. Scotvold had two hits, while Wilkins (14-4) fired a complete game allowing two runs on six hits while walking four and striking out 11. The #4 Seawolves (30-6) have won 22 straight games and will square off with #2 Florida National (25-27) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday for a spot in the championship round.
In the first elimination baseball game- CMCC stayed alive with a 10-2 win over Florida National in a knockout game earlier in the day. Cody Cleaveland (Lincoln Academy) had a grandslam in the opening game victory, while Garren Post (Westbrook) and Jake Culver each drove in two runs. Lee Robertson (2-1) picked up the pitching win allowing just one earned run on three hits in 5.2 innings.
In the second elimination baseball game- CMCC would have their season come to an end in a 13-8 loss to PSU Schuylkill. The Mustangs put together a seven run fourth inning to take an 8-4 lead on homeruns by Calver (two-run homer) and Post (three-run homer) and a two-run single by Brandon Gour, but for the second time in the tournament a big inning for their opponent would sink them as Schuylkill put up six runs in the fifth to take the win. Cleaveland had three hits, Post drove in three runs, while Culver and Gour added two RBI each. Brady Vincent (Edward Little) suffered the pitching defeat in relief. The Mustangs went 1-2 in the World Series and finish the season with a record of 27-15.
