BREWER- The Brewer Witches topped the Hermon Hawks 2-1 in a rain shortened five inning baseball game at Heddericq Field on Monday evening.
The Hawks, who were serving as the home team after the contest got moved to Brewer, would open the scoring on an RBI single by Brayden Ladd in the bottom of the first inning. Blake Littlefield only allowed one hit and no runs on the mound after that for the Witches, and his team evened it 1-1 on a single by Parker Bouchard in the top of the second. The game winning run was produced in the third on a leadoff triple into the gap in right centerfield by Jake Perry. Perry would then score on a hard grounder by Kaiden Morin that went for an RBI, with Morin reaching first base after it was bobbled by the shortstop. The Witches were threatening in the top of the sixth inning with two runners on and noone out when the umpires got together and called the game official, ending it due to heavy rain.
Dylan Nadeau had two hits in the win for Brewer, who improved to 6-5 in Class A North. Blake Littlefield picked up the victory on the mound, throwing 103 pitches (59 for strikes) in 5.0 innings of work allowing one run on two hits with five walks and 10 strikeouts. Mason Kinney also pitched strong in taking the loss for Class B Hermon (7-4), giving up two runs (one earned) with two walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The Witches return to action on Wednesday when they host Edward Little, while the Hawks play at Nokomis on Friday.
