In a battle of top pitchers in the region, Orono softball got a walkoff win 1-0 over Washington Academy on Tuesday.
Madison Sinclair hit a line drive to center that was misplayed for an error, allowing pinch runner Brooke McCollett to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Red Riots. Jillian Severance pitched a complete game in the circle to get the victory, allowing four hits with no walks and 16 strikeouts. Bella Cirone took the tough luck loss for the Raiders, also firing a complete game giving up one run (none earned) with no walks and 15 strikeouts. Cirone also recorded her 500th career strikeout.
