Parker Cates hammered a walk-off RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth inning on Monday in East Machias, as Washington Academy baseball topped Bucksport 7-6.
The Golden Bucks trailed 5-1, but came up with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead. Matt Curtis had the go ahead two-run double. The Raiders sent it to extras on a single by Daniel Gardner in the bottom half of the seventh. Ben Hennessey then reached on an error in the bottom of the eighth, before Cates ended it in walk-off fashion for the hosts with his hit. Gardner and Trevor Shimabukuro had two hits each for WA (13-2), with Gardner driving in three runs. Shimabukuro and Colby Mohalland scored two runs each. James Welch picked up the pitching win in relief. Shimabukuro fired the first 6.2 innings allowing six runs (one earned) on four hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. Curtis and Dawson Sukeforth had two RBI a piece for Bucksport (9-6). Bo Provencher lost in relief of starting pitcher Ryan Winchester, who went the first 6.1 innings giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.
