Raymond helps Bucksport softball sneak past WA

Lexi Raymond had two hits, one RBI, and scored the game winning run on Monday as Bucksport softball defeated Washington Academy 2-1 in East Machias.

The Golden Bucks (14-1) got some redemption, after losing their first game of the season to the Raiders in Bucksport last Thursday by the same score. A bunt by Raymond brought Addison Harvey across the plate to break a scoreless tie in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. WA tied it in the fourth on a sacrifice by Meadow Rohde to score Avery Libby. The game winner in the sixth was manufactured by Raymond. She led off with an infield single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice popout by Jetta Shook. Natalie Simpson fired a complete game to get the win in the circle allowing one run on three hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Bella Cirone was also strong in the loss for Washington Academy (10-5) in her complete game effort giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.
