Former NHL player Marco Sturm has been named as the 30th head coach of the Boston Bruins, the team announced on Thursday.
Sturm served as the head coach of the Ontario Reign (AHL) for the past three seasons. He led Ontario to a 119-80-11 record in his time there and three consecutive playoff appearances. Sturm also had coaching stops as an assistant for the Los Angeles Kings, and as head coach and general manager of the German Men’s National Team. As a player, Sturm played in 938 NHL games for Florida, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Jose. He amassed 242 goals and 245 assists (487 points) from 1997-2012.
Sturm, 46, takes over the full time spot after the firing of Jim Montgomery earlier in the 2024-25 season. Joe Sacco had served as the interim coach after the firing of Montgomery, but reports say he was not a finalist for the permanent position.
