Former Maine Black Bear and NHL goaltender Ben Bishop is headlining the inductees into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025, the school announced in a press release on Monday.
Bishop had 55 career wins between the pipes for the Black Bears with a 2.29 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. He went on to play a total of 11 NHL seasons with six teams (St. Louis, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, and the Dallas Stars). He finished second twice for the Vezina Trophy (top goaltender in the league), and also finished third on one occasion.
Bishop joins former Maine women’s hockey player Meagan Aarts, football standout Brandon McGowan, single season baseball hits leader Brian Seguin, and 1958 pole vaulting collegiate titleist Bill Schroeder. The teams being inducted include the 1977-78 women’s swimming team champions and the dominant cross country track and field team of 1964. The 2025 Class brings the total individuals in the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame to 240 and teams to 14.
The banquet and induction will take place on September 26th at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
