Caribou slips past MDI in Class B baseball prelim

The Caribou Vikings scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings on Tuesday, and got past the MDI Trojans 8-6 in a Class B prelim baseball game played in Bar Harbor.

The Vikings had built a 6-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but in the bottom half the host Trojans put up four runs on an error, a balk, and a two-run single by Alister Frongillo to tie it 6-6. Caribou got the eventual game winner with two outs in the sixth and noone on base when Matt Pelletier singled, and then Bryce Dillon hit a hard grounder to first base that went for an error allowing Pelletier to come around and score.

Dillon, Chandler St. Peter, Nic Plourde, and Brayden Brescia each had two hits for the Vikings. Carter St. Pierre and Brescia knocked in two runs, while Dillon and Plourde would score two runs a piece. Dawson St. Pierre earned the victory on the mound in relief of Brescia, not allowing a run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. #9 Caribou (10-7) will play at #1 Cony on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Alex Roos, Mason Lapointe, and Ben Ingram had two hits each for the Trojans. Frongillo had three RBI, and Lapointe along with Colin Sullivan would score twice. Preston Tripp took the pitching loss allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. #8 MDI ends their season with a record of 6-11.
