Alex McCannell hits a game winning walk-off single, as Old Town baseball pushes past Belfast in 11 innings in a Class B quarterfinal

Alex McCannell hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning on Wednesday afternoon, as Old Town snuck past Belfast 6-5 in a Class B quarterfinal game.

Nate Baker hit two solo homeruns to centerfield for the Coyotes, with one in the bottom of the first inning to cut the deficit to 2-1 and then hit a shot in the fifth to tie it 5-5. The game winner was set up by one out singles by Jackson Brawn and Tyler Priest in the 11th, followed by a walk taken by Carter Osnoe to load the bases. On a 3-2 pitch, McCannell hit a hard ground ball into center to end it in walk-off fashion sending Old Town into a Friday semifinal.

Michael Garland led the hosts in hits with three, while Baker and Julian Duty each had two hits and two RBI. Old Town stole eight total bases, as Parker Day swiped three and Ethan Closson had two. Coyotes pitching struckout 21 batters. Duty came up big in relief in earning the win allowing no runs on four hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Priest started on the hill and gave up five runs (one earned) on three hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Ethan Abbott, Luke Littlefield, and Hayden Brimer had two hits a piece for Belfast. Colton Luce scored twice, and Gary Gale drove in a run. Aidan Howard suffered the pitching loss in relief as he was charged for one run on five hits with six walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The #6 Lions end their season with a record of 11-6. #3 Old Town (10-7) will travel to #2 Ellsworth for a semifinal matchup on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
