Ellsworth baseball uses 11-run sixth inning to beat Old Town and advance to the Class B Regional Final

Ellsworth exploded for 11 runs in the sixth inning on Friday afternoon, and knocked off Old Town 11-2 in a Class B baseball semifinal game.

The visiting Coyotes were staked to a 2-0 lead on a bases loaded walk by Alex McCannell in the first inning, and a RBI single by Tyler Priest in the fifth. The Eagles began their sixth inning outburst when Luke Horne led off and reached on an error. The first run scored on a bases loaded bunt single by Brayden King. Jackson Barry then lifted a RBI sacrifice fly to tie it, and Evan Haskell gave his team the lead with what turned out to be a game winning two-run single. Ellsworth had eight hits in the frame, and took advantage of three walks and the leadoff error to advance to the Northern Maine Final on Tuesday.

Kyle Kenney had three hits and a RBI, while King and Haskell each drove in three runs in the win for #2 Ellsworth. King, Barry, and Hollis Grindal added two hits a piece. Ridge Weatherbee, Dawson Curtis, and Grindal would all contribute two runs scored. Curtis went the first 5.0 innings in a no-decision on the mound allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with five walks and six strikeouts. King picked up the victory in relief by throwing a perfect 2.0 innings with four strikeouts. Ethan Closson had two hits and scored a run for Old Town, while McCannell and Priest had one RBI each. McCannell suffered the pitching defeat as he was charged for eight runs (six earned) on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings. The #3 Coyotes end their season with a record of 10-8. The Eagles, now 13-5, will play in the Class B Northern Maine Final against either #5 Hermon or #1 Cony on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
