Ruth White breaks her own school record in 10,000 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships

UNH freshman Ruth White (Orono) shattered her own school record in the 10,000 meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oregon Thursday night, finishing ninth and earning a spot on the All-American Second Team.

White broke her record that she set at the NCAA East First Round by 29.43 seconds. She was edged out by Brenda Tuwei (University of Alabama) at the finish line to miss All-America First Team by 0.46 seconds. White earned the bid to Eugene in a time of 32:50.17 at the NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Florida on May 29 as she placed sixth out of 48 competitors with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.

White had a stellar rookie outdoor season as she earned a spot in the NCAA East First Round in the 10,000 meter run with her school record and meet record time of 32:57.83 at the America East Championships, where she was named the Most Outstanding Rookie. White previously set the school record with a time of 33:27.57 in the outdoor season opener at the Black & Gold Invitational. She won gold in the 5,000m at the New England Championships with a school record time of 16:22.78. The previous time a member of the UNH women’s track and field team competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships was in 2018, when 11-time All-American and two-time Olympian Elle Purrier St. Pierre earned All-America First Team with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500m.
