Miss Maine Softball Finalist Natalie Simpson throws a no-hitter, as Bucksport softball rolls past Orono in Class C semifinals

Miss Maine Softball Finalist Natalie Simpson twirled a no-hitter on Saturday afternoon, helping to lead top seeded Bucksport to a 6-0 Class C semifinal win over Orono.

Simpson walked one and struckout 12 in her complete game, her second no-hitter vs Orono this season. Simpson, Marina Keene, Jetta Shook, Emma Clement, and Layken Varnum helped to spark the offense for the host Golden Bucks with one RBI each. Shook had two hits and also scored twice. Jillian Severance also went the distance in the circle for the Red Riots giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. The junior also recorded her 500th career strikeout in the defeat. #5 Orono ends their season with a record of 10-8. Bucksport (17-1) will face #2 Mattanawcook Academy in the Class C Northern Maine Championship game at Coffin Field in Brewer on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
