Bangor has their three game GNCBL win streak snapped

AUGUSTA- The Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon scored a pair of runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings on Sunday afternoon to defeat Bangor 10-4 in Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League action at Morton Field. The loss snaps a three game win streak by the Babes.

Bangor (3-2) took their only lead 1-0 on a solo homerun by TJ Llerena (Hampden Academy, University of Southern Maine) in the top of the third inning, just clearing the 305 foot sign in rightfield. It was the first homerun of the season hit by the Babes. Augusta (3-4) came right back in the bottom half to grab the advantage for good on a two out and two strike single by Michael Caron (Lewiston High, Colby-Sawyer) that scored two to make it 2-1 Sturgeon. They extended that to 4-1 in the fourth on a RBI double by Anthony Cooley (Brunswick High, Plymouth St.) and a Bangor error that plated another run. The Babes would get within 4-2 on a single for a RBI by Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth High, USM), but the hosts scored two more in the fifth and then three in the eighth on a three-run homer by Sam Bradford (Yarmouth High, UMass-Dartmouth) to pull away and end their four game losing skid.

Llarena had three hits, one RBI, and scored twice to lead the Bangor offense. Logan Keller, Keblinsky, and Ayden Hogan each added two hits. Keblinsky contributed one RBI. Llarena and Keblinsky also stole two bases each. Chris Gaudio started on the mound and would take the loss allowing two runs (none earned) on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Caron led Augusta with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Brady Harvie (Windham High, Plymouth St.) picked up the pitching win in relief giving up two runs on six hits in 3.0 innings. The Babes return to action on Tuesday on the road at 5 p.m. against Waterville, while the next home game at the Winkin Complex will come on Thursday also against the Waterville Woodworkers at 7 p.m.
