Bucksport ends the Hall-Dale reign, captures first state championship softball title in 8 years

Bucksport used a three-run sixth inning on Saturday afternoon, pulling away from four-time defending champion Hall-Dale 6-2 in the Class C Softball State Championship game played at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.

The Golden Bucks never trailed in winning their first gold glove since 2017, after falling to the Bulldogs in each of the last two state final games. Jetta Shook led the way for Bucksport (19-1) with two hits and three RBI. Marina Keene had three hits, one RBI, and scored two runs. Alivia Shute added two hits, while Lexi Raymond would also contribute two runs scored. Miss Maine Softball Finalist Natalie Simpson finished her superb career and senior season by pitching a complete game in the circle allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Torie Tibbetts had two hits including a solo homerun for Hall-Dale. Lucy Gray also went the distance in the circle giving up six runs on 11 hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The Bulldogs end up with a record of 17-3. It is the ninth title overall for Bucksport (four in Class B and now five in Class C).
