Sidney Nicholls was brilliant in the circle to lead Medomak Valley to a 1-0 win over Hermon in the Class B softball state championship game played on Saturday afternoon at the University of Maine in Orono.
The only run scored when Grace Havener singled to score Kendall Simmons. Havener went 3-3. Nicholls allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out 12 in her complete game shutout effort. It is the second softball state championship for Medomak Valley with the last coming in 1995.
Braelyn Wilcox allowed one run on six hits with no walks and nine strikeouts for the Hawks.
