Brendan Mahaney, Peter Keblinsky, and Noah Simpson combined for eight hits and 12 RBI on Sunday afternoon, as Bangor took down Augusta on the road 16-6 in Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League action at Morton Field.
The Babes (5-3) scored two in the top of the first inning and never trailed on a Keblinsky RBI double and a Simpson RBI single. They exploded for five more in the third to stretch the advantage to 7-0. Simpson had a two-run single and Mahaney drove in his first run in the frame. After the Surgin’ Sturgeon cut it to 7-4 after five, Bangor put it away by scoring nine times in the final three innings. Keblinsky (three-run homerun) and Mahaney (two-run homer, two-run double) drove in seven of those nine runs.
Mahaney finished with three hits and five RBI, falling just a triple shy of a cycle. Keblinsky had three hits, four RBI, and also scored four times. Simpson contributed two hits and three RBI, while Joseph Wellman-Clouse also chipped in two hits. The Babes stole six bases, with Logan Keller swiping three of those. Christopher Gaudio picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs (none earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Kyle Douin and Brady Vincent had two RBI each for Augusta, while Sam Calder took the loss on the hill. The Surgin’ Sturgeon are now 3-5 on the season. Bangor is now 5-3, just a half game behind first place Waterville in the Northern Division standings. The Babes will take on the Woodworkers on Thursday night at 7 p.m. back at home at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.
