LSU wins eighth college baseball title

The #6 LSU Tigers scored four runs in the fourth inning on Sunday afternoon, and held on to defeat #13 Coastal Carolina 5-3 to sweep the best of three championship series of the College Baseball World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. It is the eighth college baseball title for LSU.

Coastal took a brief 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a solo homerun by Dean Mihos. In a 1-1 game in the fourth, LSU loaded the bases with no outs and Chris Stanfield delivered a two-run single to give the Tigers their first lead and the lead for good. Three batters later, Derek Curiel came up with a clutch two-out two-run single up the middle that provided the difference in the game. Chanticleers head coach Kevin Schnall and first base coach Matt Schilling were both ejected in the bottom of the first inning after a warning for arguing balls and strikes, and will be suspended for games to begin the 2026 season.

Wells Sykes had two hits and two RBI in the loss for Coastal Carolina. They had won 26 games in a row entering the championship series, ending the year with two straight losses and a record of 56-13. LSU ends up at 53-15, winning it all for a second time under current head coach Jay Johnson. It is also the sixth consecutive college baseball title for a team out of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Tigers pitcher Kade Anderson was names the Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series. The sophomore had pitched a complete game three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the 1-0 Game 1 win over the Chanticleers on Saturday.
