Hampden stays unbeaten with Senior Legion baseball sweep over Bangor

BANGOR- The Hampden Riverdogs stayed unbeaten by sweeping a Senior Legion baseball doubleheader over the Bangor Comrades by scores of 6-2 and 11-10 on Wednesday evening at Mansfield Stadium.

In game one- Andrew Cote snapped a 2-2 fifth inning tie with a game winning RBI single in leading Hampden to the victory. Cote had two hits, two RBI, and scored two runs. Gavin Monyok added two hits and a run driven in. Ashton O’Roak picked up the win on the mound allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Ian Boudreau had two hits and two RBI for Bangor, while also suffering the pitching defeat giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

In game two- Hampden playing as the home team built a 7-2 lead, and then had to hold on after a pair of late Bangor rallies to sweep the doubleheader. Michael MacDonald provided the game winner for the Riverdogs with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase the lead to 11-6, after the Comrades had cut it to 7-6 in the top half of the frame. Bangor sliced it to one again in their last at bat and had the tying run on base, but Kaleb Smith struckout Matty O’Connell swinging to end it. Cote capped off his big evening with two more hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. Josh Lorenzo contributed two hits and two runs driven in. Nykson Moors also chipped in two hits and Rogan Lord scored three times. Andrew McKenney got the win on the mound allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Smith picked up the save. Boudreau and Zac Cota each had a hit, one RBI, and two runs scored for Bangor. Gavin Glanville-True also scored twice. Preston Karam took the loss on the hill giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. The Comrades are now 1-5 on the season and will host Old Town/Orono on Tuesday, while the Riverdogs improve to 6-0 and play on the road at Capital Area on Monday.
