The Bangor Babes played a seven inning Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader on the road against the Waterville Woodworkers on Sunday at H. Allen Ryan Field on the campus of Thomas College. Bangor took the first game 6-3, before game two was suspended by darkness tied 11-11 in the top of the sixth.
In the completed game one- Brendan Mahaney snapped a 3-3 tie with a seventh inning RBI single to help give the Babes the win. Brody Walsh added some breathing room with a two-run double in the three run frame. Noah Simpson was the leading hitter, going 3-3 at the plate with two RBI. Noah Hurd got the win on the mound going 6.0 innings giving up two runs on nine hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Those are the first earned runs the lefthander has allowed this season. Jacob Love worked the seventh to pick up the save. Eddie Morrissey and Allen Merrifield both had two hits and a RBI for the Woodworkers. Andrew Pruell suffered the pitching loss allowing six runs (two earned) on 11 hits with five walks and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
In the suspended game two- The Babes had a lead of 11-6 helped by a five run second inning, before the Woodworkers scored five in the last of the fifth to tie it before the contest was suspended due to darkness. Bangor was being led by Colton Trisch with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Matthew Haney also has two hits and two runs driven in. Morrissey (three RBI) and Jack Growney (two RBI) were leading Waterville. This seven inning game will resume where it left off on Sunday in Waterville prior to the regularly scheduled nine inning game.
Bangor is now 8-6 on the season, while Waterville drops to 10-6. The Babes will play their home regular season finale by taking on Augusta on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
