The Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond Senior Little League scored five times in the top of the third inning to take a 6-2 lead, and then hung on for a 6-5 victory over Millsboro, Delaware in their opening game of the Senior Little League East Regional at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Wednesday afternoon.
After Millsboro took a 2-1 advantage after one inning, Gray-New Gloucester exploded in the third to advance to a winners bracket contest on Friday. Maddix Morgridge hit a groundball that was misplayed for an error that allowed Evan Franklin to score in what turned out to be the game winner in the five-run frame. Millsboro had the tying run at third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a flyout to centerfield would end it. Hayden Barnhouser led Millsboro with two hits and three RBI. Landyn York and Cooper Bucci both had two hits and one RBI for Gray-New Gloucester. Liam Joyce went the first 3.0 innings on the mound to pick up the victory allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond will play Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Oxford, Massachusetts. Oxford won their opening game of the regional 14-4 by mercy rule on Wednesday over South Kingston, Rhode Island.
