#6 Central Maine scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back on Sunday evening, eliminating the #4 seeded 36ers by a score of 10-4 in American Legion Baseball Tournament action at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
The Hurricanes took advantage of five walks, a hit batsman (with the bases loaded), and also had three hits in the bottom of the first inning to bolt out to the big lead. Sean Achorn had the highlight hit of the frame with a three-run double to clear the bases that turned out to be the game winner. Achorn led the way with two hits and three RBI. Michael Hamlin and Jordan Lewis both drove in two runs, with Hamlin also scoring two runs. Ben Foster reached base twice with two walks, and came across to score two runs. Foster also earned the pitching victory by not allowing a run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work. Liam Jacobs had two hits for the 36ers, and Aidan Sanborn had two RBI. Blake Grady took the loss on the mound giving up five runs on one hit with four walks in 1/3 of an inning. The 36ers end their season with a record of 9-7. Central Maine (10-8) advances to another elimination game that begins at 5 p.m. on Monday at Mansfield Stadium against #2 Hampden/Motor City.
