Hampden/Motor City scored three runs in the third inning, and two more in the sixth on Sunday afternoon to get past Bangor/Dunkin 6-5 in an elimination Senior Legion Tournament game played at Mansfield Stadium.
The #8 seeded Comrades grabbed a 3-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings thanks to a RBI double by Alex Kearns, a passed ball, and a bases loaded walk by Preston Karam. The #2 Riverdogs took over the advantage for good with their four spot in the last of the third. Rogan Lord hit a RBI sacrifice fly, Bodie Bishop slapped a RBI double to center, while Nykson Moors and Blake Littlefield both walked with the bases loaded. They extended that to 6-3 in the sixth on another RBI sacrifice flyout by Lord, and an error that scored another run. Bangor pulled within one in their last at bat in the seventh on a passed ball and an error on a ball hit by Owen Glanville-True, but Kearns would groundout to end it as the Comrades finish their season with a record of 8-11.
Gavin Glanville-True had two hits to lead Bangor, while Ian Boudreau took the pitching loss in relief of Karam by allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Andrew Cote and Ashton O’Roak each had two hits for Hampden, while Lord drove in two runs. O’Roak scored two runs, and also earned the win on the mound in relief giving up two runs (none earned) on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Hayden Brimer got the two out save. The Riverdogs, now 13-3, will take on either the 36ers (#4) or Central Maine (#6) in another elimination game on Monday at 5 p.m. at Mansfield Stadium.
