The top seeded Roderick-Crosby Post 28 Flyers exploded for 12 runs over the final two innings on Monday night, and became the first team to advance to the state championship round of the American Senior Legion Baseball Tournament with a 13-3 win over the #2 Trenton Acadians at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
After Roderick-Crosby grabbed a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning, Trenton scored three times in the fifth to jump ahead 3-1 helped by a two-run error on a ball hit by Colin Sullivan. In the decisive sixth inning, the Flyers took advantage of two walks and also had four hits to score five times in moving ahead for good. Bryce Wilcox had what turned out to be the game winning RBI single, with a second run scoring on an error by the Acadians. Roderick-Crosby would put seven more on the scoreboard in the seventh in advancing to the championship round on Wednesday, where they’ll need to be beaten twice.
Trenton was led by Miles Palmer who had two hits and scored a run, while Sullivan stole two bases. Trent Goss took the pitching loss in relief of Dawson Curtis, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits with two walks in 1.1 innings of work. The Acadians (11-4) will face the Central Maine Hurricanes (11-8) in an elimination game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Wilcox had three hits and four RBI for Roderick-Crosby, while Kaiden Longley had a pair of hits and drove in three. Gage Decarolis, Trevor Crosby, Logan Dube, Longley, and Ben Wrigley each scored two runs. Crosby also earned the pitching win in relief giving up three runs (none earned) on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings. The Flyers (15-1) will await the winner of Tuesday’s game between Trenton and Central Maine in the state championship round on Wednesday, July 31 at 5 p.m. If Roderick-Crosby loses that first game, there will be a winner take all game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
