Jackson Barry, Brady Pert, Ayden Mcguire, and Brayden King combined for eight hits and 11 RBI on Tuesday night as the #2 Trenton Acadians eliminated the great run by the #6 Central Maine Hurricanes 13-5 in the American Senior Legion Baseball Tournament at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. Trenton now moves on to the state championship round against top seeded Roderick-Crosby on Wednesday.
Trenton jumped out to a 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish after an inning and a half. They put up six of those in their first at bat, doing their damage all with two outs highlighted by a two-run single by Pert and a two-run double by Barry. Central Maine got within 8-5 with three bases loaded walks in the bottom of the third inning, but that is as close as they would get as the Acadians would pull away taking advantage of 10 errors in the contest by the Hurricanes and tacking on single runs in the fourth and fifth and three more in the seventh.
Sean Achorn led Central Maine with two RBI. Cam Dostie took the pitching loss allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout in 4.1 innings. The Hurricanes, who had won their previous four elimination games in the tournament to stay alive, end their season with a record of 11-9. Barry was 4-4 at the plate for Trenton with four RBI and two runs scored. Pert added a hit and knocked in three, Maguire had two RBI, while King contributed three hits and two RBI. Trent Goss reached base in all three plate appearances with a hit and two walks and scored three times. King and Maguire also both came across to score twice. Colin Sullivan got the win on the mound going the first 1.1 innings giving up one run on no hits with three walks and one strikeout. The Acadians (12-5) will meet top seed Roderick-Crosby (15-1) in the championship round on Wednesday, July 30 at 5 p.m. The Flyers beat Trenton in a winner’s bracket game 13-3 on Monday. If the Acadians can win game one Wednesday, a second winner take all contest would follow at 7:30 p.m.
