Roderick-Crosby walks-off on Trenton in eight innings to win the Maine State Championship of American Senior Legion Baseball

The top seeded Roderick-Crosby Post 28 Flyers (Farmington) are headed to the regionals in Massachusetts, as they took down the Trenton Acadians 7-6 in eight innings on Wednesday evening on a walk-off single by pinch hitter Parker Smith to capture the Maine State American Senior Legion Baseball Championship at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. It is the first ever senior legion state title for Roderick-Crosby, who is made up of players from Mt. Blue, Mt. Abram, Dirigo, Spruce Mountain, and Mountain Valley High School.

#2 Trenton, who needed a win to force a winner take all game two, got off to a quick start by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. A RBI groundout by Miles Palmer, a two-run double by Ayden Mcguire, and two errors led to their big first at bat. Roderick-Crosby responded with two runs in the second, and then tied it in the third 5-5 on a two-run error on a ball hit by Trevor Crosby and a RBI single by Logan Dube. Nolan Leso gave the Flyers their first lead when he scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, before the Acadians answered back on a RBI single by Dawson Curtis in the sixth knotting it up on the scoreboard again 6-6. Trenton went down in order in the seventh, and Roderick-Crosby had a chance to end it in the bottom of the inning as they had the bases loaded with one out but couldn’t get anything across. In extras in the eighth the Acadians got a leadoff walk but nothing came of it as the next three hitters were retired, setting up the walk-off dramatics by the Flyers in last half of the frame. Leso led off and reached on an error, and then with one out Gage Decarolis walked. Smith then stepped up to pinch hit and slapped the third pitch he saw to rightfield for a single scoring Leso to end it.

Mcguire, Curtis, and Brayden King had two hits each for Trenton. Mcguire knocked in two runs. Jackson Barry took the pitching loss in relief allowing one run (none earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. The Acadians were looking for their first state title since 2023. That season they won the Northeast Regional and participated in the Legion World Series. They end 2025 with a record of 12-6. Dube had three hits for Roderick-Crosby, while Kaiden Longley added two hits and one RBI. Leso scored three runs, while Decarolis also came across to score twice. Aiden Wilkins earned the 2.0 inning win on the mound giving up no runs and no hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The Flyers (16-1) now advance to the Northeast Regional in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts that begins next Wednesday, August 6th (double elimination). We will post the full schedule once that becomes available. Roderick-Crosby is on a 13-game win streak, with their one and only loss coming back on July 3rd by a score of 4-3 to Capital Area.
