The Sanford Mainers rolled to a 9-1 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in game one of a best of three opening round New England Collegiate Baseball League Playoff opener at Goodall Park on Friday night.
Sanford (23-22) scored twice in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back, pounding out 13 hits in the victory. Zack Kent had a RBI groundout, and Sam Miller scored on a wild pitch in that third inning that turned out to be the game winner. Kent had two hits and two RBI. Kyle Douin (Cony High, University of Southern Maine), Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, USM), and Jorge Burgos also added two hits a piece. Douin and Keblinsky scored two runs each. Josh Kopetski (Thornton Academy, University of Rhode Island) earned the win for the Mainers on the mound allowing one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Tyler Longoria fired 1.0 scoreless inning, while Jason Libby (Bangor Christian, University of Maine) would not give up any runs in 2.0 innings of work.
Sanford will go for the two game sweep in North Adams, Massachusetts on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
