The Sanford Mainers summer season came to an end on Tuesday night in an 8-0 loss to top seeded Keene in game two of the New England Collegiate Baseball League North Division Finals at Goodall Park. The SwampBats win the best of three series 2-0 in advancing to the league championship series to battle for the Fay Vincent Cup.
Keene (36-12) scored one run in the second inning and four more in the fifth, and also held Sanford to just four hits on the evening in rolling to the victory. Michael O’Brien had a two-run homerun for the SwampBats, while Evan Chaffee pitched the first 6.0 innings to get the win allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Dom Tozzi had two hits for the Mainers, and TJ Curley (Stonehill College) suffered the pitching loss allowing three runs on four hits in 4.1 innings. The Mainers end their season with a record of 24-25. Keene will face either two time defending champion the Newport Gulls or the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in the 2025 Championship Series.
