The University of Maine men’s and women’s basketball teams had their conference schedules for the 2025-26 season announced on Tuesday.
The men’s team, who opens up their regular season on Monday, November 3rd on the road at George Washington University, will play their first America East game on Saturday, January 3rd when they host Bryant at Memorial Gymnasium on Skip Chappelle Court. The Bulldogs beat the Black Bears in the conference championship game last season in Rhode Island 77-59. Maine went 20-14 and 10-6 in the conference in 2024-25, appearing in the league title game for the first time since 2004. The Black Bears will also play non-conference home games with Quinnipiac, Brown, Canisius, and UMaine-Fort Kent during the new season under third year head coach Chris Markwood. The Maine women’s team will get underway in America East action on Thursday, January 1st at UMass-Lowell. They’ll host UMBC on Thursday, January 8 at Memorial Gym in their home league opener. The Black Bears, who finished 15-16 and 9-7 in the conference in 2024-25 under now ninth year head coach Amy Vachon and fell to Albany in the semifinals, will open their new season at home against Saint Joseph’s University (Pennsylvania) on Friday, November 7th at 7 p.m. The Black Bears also host Stonehill College, Boston University, and Rhode Island during the non-conference portion of the schedule.
