Maine Field Hockey falls in season opener to #8 Boston College

The Boston College Eagles scored two first quarter goals, including a game winner from Madelieve Drion to take a 2-0 non-conference field hockey win over Maine in the season opener for both teams at the Maine Field Hockey Complex in Orono on Friday afternoon.

The winner by Drion came just 1:03 into the match and was all that was needed for the Eagles, who were ranked #8 in the country in the preseason rankings. The Drion marker was assisted by Klara Mueffelmann. Melea Weber added a second goal at 9:38 of that opening period. The Black Bears had some chances with nine penalty corners in the game but was held to just three shots (two on goal), as BC netminders Charlotte Kramer and Carine Van Wiechen both played 30 minutes to combine for the shutout. Maine freshman Nichole Kowalewski led her team with two attempted shots (one on net). Rozarie Mrazova made eight saves in the loss. The Black Bears stay at home to host Big 10 opponent Indiana on Labor Day Monday at 11 a.m.
