The Husson University football team is set to open up their 2025 season this coming Saturday when they travel to Massachusetts for a non-conference tilt with Framingham State University scheduled for a noontime kickoff.
The Eagles also stay on the road in Week 2 with a visit to Springfield College on September 13th, before their home opener at the Winkin Complex in Bangor on Saturday, September 20th vs Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) at 1 p.m. Husson stays at the Wink for their Conference of New England opener the following Saturday (September 27th) at 1 p.m. vs Endicott College.
Husson returns senior captain and quarterback Max Clark (Bangor High). Clark passed for 2,007 yards last fall with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions, with a 60.4% completion percentage. Elijah Garnett will also return for his gradute year after spending his senior season at Division II Washburn University (Kansas). Garnett was a running back in Division III in 2023 with the Eagles rushing for 1,349 yards and 19 touchdowns. Another captain will help to lead things out of the backfield in senior back Jed Lober. Lober rushed for 868 yards on 175 attempts with nine TDs in 2024. Transfer from Franklin Pierce University and former Foxcroft Academy standout Caden Crocker is also expected to play a big role as a wide receiver on the team. Graduate wide receiver Cam Holmes is back on the outside. Holmes had 18 receptions for 275 yards and six touchdowns a year ago. The Eagles have four tightends on the roster all hailing from the state of Maine in senior Caleb Solomon (Houlton High), junior Colby Chadwick (Lake Region), along with sophomores Zachary Kristan (Gardiner) and Dominic Trott (Monmouth). On the defensive side of the ball, the names to look out for will be senior captain and defensive back Brayden Trombley (75 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions in 2024), and junior defensive lineman Jahmye Tyson (71 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 6 sacks). The punting duties belong to sophomore Danny Scarlotta, Jr., while the place kicking responsibility will be served by sophomore Joshua Harvey (Old Town High) who takes over for Cason Markevich who graduated.
Husson finished 2024 with a record of 6-5 (3-2 in the Conference of New England), ending the year by falling on the road in the first ever Fusion Bowl 21-14 to SUNY Maritime. It pitted the two highest teams left in the CNE and New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) that didn’t qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles have not been to the NCAA Division III National Playoffs since 2018, when they fell 38-14 in a first round game to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). They did also play an extra game past the regular season in 2022, losing 21-20 to Plymouth State at home in the New England Bowl.
