Javen Ironside scored a game winning goal in the 67th minute on Saturday afternoon, as Suffolk University spoiled the home opener for Husson with a 2-1 non-conference men’s soccer win at Boucher Field in Bangor.
The Rams struck first just three minutes into action on a goal by Ford Lee, that was assisted by Francisco Valck and Mohamed Mehaya. The Eagles tied it on a marker by Chadi Hamadi, his first of the season in the 18th minute assisted by Lucas Menchaca. The teams played to a stalemate over the next 50 or so minutes, until Ironside came up his game winner on a helper from Diego Pierantozzi. The shots in the contest were 13-6 in favor of the Rams (4-2 on net), and they also had the upperhand in corner opportunities 8-3. Ian Caldwell made one save in net for Suffolk, who improved to 1-1-1. For the 0-2-1 Eagles, Garret Jordan stopped two shots. Husson still seeks their first win of the early season when they play on the road at Bowdoin College on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
