University of Maine-Augusta sweeps CMCC in softball season openers

The University of Maine-Augusta softball team in their second year as a varsity program played Central Maine Community College on Wednesday in a fall doubleheader and season openers for both teams in Augusta.

Arabel Linkletter, Natalie Gilman (Skowhegan High), and Samantha Withee (Leavitt) sparked the Moose in game one with a pair of RBI each as part of a 7-1 victory. Addison McCormick got the win in the circle giving up one run on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Withee drove in four to help UMA complete the sweep in game two by a count of 13-1. Gilman, McCormick, and Audrey Nile each drove in two as the hosts scored 10 runs in the third inning to pull away for the mercy rule victory. Shannah Parsons (Monmouth) went the distance in the circle firing 5.0 innings allowing one run on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Hailey Turcotte (Leavitt) had two hits and both RBI on the day for the Mustangs. The Moose have 15 fall games scheduled, ending on October 19th before finishing the regular season when they begin back up in the spring.
