Bates men’s soccer shuts out nationally ranked Bowdoin

The Bates College men’s soccer team upset the nationally ranked Bowdoin Polar Bears for a second straight season on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 victory in a NESCAC matchup in Brunswick.

Andrew Jean Baptiste scored the only goal that was needed in the 43th minute for the Bobcats, while Tomas Alberole added an insurance marker in the 75th minute. Hewitt Stevenson picked up an assist on the game winner by Baptiste. George Nassar stopped all four shots he faced in net, as Bates stays unbeaten at 4-0-1 (1-0-1 NESCAC). Alex Ainsworth made six stops in the loss for #14 Bowdoin College, who dropped to 3-1-1 (1-1-1 NESCAC). It is the first time since the 1998 and 1999 seasons that the Bobcats have beaten the Polar Bears when they’ve been nationally ranked in back to back matches.
