UMFK women’s soccer beats MMA for first win of the season

Freshman Shylah Francis (Kingston, Jamaica) scored a game winning goal with 24 seconds in the first half on Wednesday night in helping the University of Maine-Fort Kent women’s soccer team to their first win of the season 1-0 over Maine Maritime Academy in non-conference match played in Castine.

It was a team-leading fifth goal of the season for Francis, with an assist credited to Rosaria Talbot. Dreanna Thaw stopped three shots in net to preserve the shutout, as the Bengals improved to 1-4-1. It is only the second loss for the Mariners, who dropped to 7-2 overall.
