Emma Staron scored a game winning second quarter goal on Friday afternoon, in leading Albany to a 2-0 America East Field Hockey win over Maine at Alumni Turf in Albany, NY. It was the conference opener for both teams.
Staron scored 5:32 into the second off an assist from Lillian Willis for the only goal that was needed, as the Great Danes improved to 6-3 overall with the league opening victory. Jette Kurz added her second of the season in the third quarter for Albany to end the scoring. Martha Barratt led Maine by firing both of her attempted shots on net, as the guests were held to five of them on goal for the afternoon. Rozarie Mrazova played the entire match in net and made seven saves. The Black Bears fall to 3-7, and will try to bounce back on Sunday afternoon when they make a trip to Brown University in Rhode Island for a non-conference game.
