BOSTON- The Bruins suffered their first defeat of the early season on Monday afternoon in a holiday matinee at TD Garden, as the Tampa Bay Lightning held off a Boston rally for a 4-3 victory.
Tampa (1-2) led 2-0 after one period, and then 3-0 and 4-1 early in the second before Boston mounted a comeback attempt. Goals by Jordan Harris (5:31) and Morgan Geekie (11:35) cut it to one. The Bruins had chances with a powerplay after that in the stanza, and then another one with the goalie pulled with 8.7 seconds left in the game to create a 6 on 4, but were unable to find the equalizer in seeing their record fall to 3-1. Casey Mittelstadt had the other goal, and Joonas Korpisalo made 19 saves. Boston now heads out West for a three game road trip in Vegas, Colorado, and Utah beginning Thursday night against the Golden Knights.
