Maine women’s soccer battles back twice to gain conference tie at UMass-Lowell

The University of Maine women’s soccer team battled back twice to earn a 2-2 America East tie against UMass-Lowell on Thursday evening at Cushing Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Down 1-0, the Black Bears would tie it on an unassisted goal by Grace Johnson in the 56th minute. It was the first collegiate goal for Johnson. The Riverhawks (4-5-4, 1-2-2 America East) would regain a one goal lead in the 76th minute when Luka Marceau found the back of the net on assists from Nadja Andersen and Nina Hertz-Seabbo. Maine found the equalizer with 6:25 to play. Meghan Bernetti placed a direct kick towards the box that was headed by Victoria Dungey. The headed ball came right to Jordane Pinette who used her left foot to find the left corner of the net to salvage the tie for her team. It was the first tally of the season for Pinette. Elena Barenberg made seven saves in net for the Black Bears (2-6-3, 1-2-2 in conference play). Maine returns home on on Sunday when they host UMBC at 12 p.m.
