Husson sweeps homecoming games on Saturday

It was homecoming at Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, as several of the athletic programs were all in action that included football, men’s and women’s soccer, and field hockey. And it ended up as a clean sweep for the Eagles.

In the football game at the Winkin Complex- Elijah Garnett rushed for 173 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns, and Max Clark (Bangor) tossed two touchdown passes as Husson won their first Conference of New England game of the season 48-0 over New England College. The Eagles defense held the Pilgrims (0-6, 0-3 CNE) to 66 total yards on 47 plays. Ryan Banister (Gardiner) had eight total tackles (five solo) and two sacks. Husson (2-4, 1-2) will play at the University of New England next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the fifth annual Lobster Trap rivalry game.

In the women’s soccer game at Boucher Field- Husson stayed unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 victory over UMaine-Farmington. Devon St. Louis (Bangor) had the game winner in the first half, while Jacquie Pangburn (John Bapst) added a pair of goals in the second half. Rylee Speed (Central) had two assists, and Paige Dunn chipped in one. Madison Weigler played in net, and didn’t face any shots on goal. The Eagles (10-4-1, 6-0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference) play a non-conference game at Keene St. College on Sunday, before finishing the regular season with league road games at Thomas College (Wednesday) and Maine Maritime Academy (Saturday) next week.

In the men’s soccer game at Boucher Field-Miguel Diaz Alvarez had a game tying goal in the 52nd minute, and Jorge Mora had the eventual game winner in the 66th minute as Husson topped UMaine-Farmington 4-3. Diaz Alvarez had two goals on the afternoon, while Cesar Soucre had the other tally. Liam Mason (Greenville) made five saves in net. Owen Spera (Gorham), JJ Greenlaw (Mt. Blue), and Garrett Gendreau (Waterville) had the goals for the Beavers. The Eagles (6-8-3, 6-1 in the North Atlantic Conference) finish their regular season with league road games at Thomas College (Wednesday) and Maine Maritime Academy (Saturday) next week.

In the field hockey game at the Winkin Complex- Lauryn Brown (Orono) had a first quarter hat trick, as Husson stayed unbeaten in the Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference with an 8-0 win over UMaine-Farmington. The Eagles had four multiple point scorers in the contest, as Maddie Perkins (Winthrop) had one goal and two assists, while Averi Baker (Hall-Dale) and Faith Tillotson (Thornton Academy) had one goal and one assist. Kyla Havey (Freeport) and Tessa Capozzoli both also scored a goal each. Ella Duchette (Brunswick) picked up the shutout in the cage and didn’t face any shots. Husson (6-6, 3-0 in the CMCFHC) returns to action on Wednesday, October 29th when they host a league game against Thomas College at 6 p.m. at the Winkin Complex.
