At Bucksport on Friday, senior Rylee Moulton broke loose for three second half goals to lead Penobscot Valley girls soccer over the Lady Bucks 3-0.
After a scoreless first half, Moulton was able to find the back of the net just six minutes into the second. Casey Loring was able to win a 50/50 goal kick from Bucksport that sent the ball forward to Moulton, just inside the 18. Rylee blasted the ball that went in the upper left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. Almost exactly four minutes later PVHS struck again, this time on a corner kick. Lila Cummings sent the kick across the box toward the back side, where Bucks keeper Addison Fitch left her line to go get it. Moulton was able to get to it first however, heading the airborne ball into the back of the net making the score 2-0 with twenty nine minutes to go. The Lady Howlers would get an insurance goal at the seven minute mark, when Moulton took a corner kick that sailed toward the back post. Freshman Lilly Hallett attacked for PVHS, causing a Bucksport defender to retreat with her. The ball ended up deflecting off that defender and deflected into the net, with Moulton getting credit for the score. The Lady Bucks continued to apply pressure until the final horn however, and had some near misses. One came off a penalty kick that hit the crossbar, and another from a cross and kick that was saved at the goalline by field player Cummings.
Junior standout Brooklynn Raymond had another strong showing in net for Penobscot Valley, saving all 10 of the 11 shots she faced and earning her ninth shutout of the year. The defense of Eve McNally, Baileigh Leet, Abby Farley, Paxtyn King, and Charlotte Brochu played stellar, keeping a Bucksport team that averaged 4+ goals per game against their other opponents this year scoreless for the second time in just over a week. The Lady Howlers improve to 10-2-1 and will play their season finale at Mattanawcook Academy on Monday. They will likely finish second in the Class D heal points.
Bucksport appears to have locked up the #2 seed as well in their Class C North Division, in finishing their regular season at 10-3-1. Fitch stopped 10 of 14 shots for the Lady Bucks.
