Husson women’s soccer beats Thomas, men’s soccer ties with the Terriers

With just two games left in the regular season, the Husson Eagles men’s and women’s soccer teams visited Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference showdowns on Wednesday in Waterville.

In the women’s game- Addi Laslie (Ellsworth) scored just 2:09 into the first half, and this is all Husson needed as they dominated in a 7-0 win over Thomas to remain unbeaten in conference play. Hailey Tarbox (Sanford) had two goals, while Olivia Charles, Ella Hosford (Bucksport), Marila Corletto, and Kennedy Freston had a goal each. Hosford added two assists. Madison Weigler (60 minutes in net) and Gabriella Smith (Biddeford- 30 minutes) combined to make four saves in the shutout. The Eagles improve to 11-5-1 and 7-0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Terriers fell to 4-11-2 and 3-4-1.

In the men’s game- In a wild back and forth contest, Husson and Thomas ended in a 3-3 tie. After David Ivarsson gave the Terriers a 1-0 advantage at 3:55 of the first half, the Eagles came back to take a 2-1 lead at the break on a penalty kick goal by Miguel Diaz Alvarez at 34:23 and a tally by Cesar Soucre just over six minutes later. Thomas took the lead back 3-2 in a span of 2:15 in the second half on goals by Daud Abdi (Lewiston) at 69:55 and Cody Robinson at 72:10. Daniel Nogeura struck back for Husson in the 80th minute to tie it and force the draw. Liam Mason (Greenville) had six saves in the Eagles net. Ivarsson had a goal and an assist for Thomas, while Jamie Fischer made seven stops in goal. The Eagles are now 6-8-4 and 6-1-1 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Terriers record now stands at 10-7-1 and 7-0-1 in league play.

The Husson men’s and women’s soccer teams play their regular season finales at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine on Saturday, October 25th. The women’s game starts at 12 p.m., with the men to follow at 2:30.
