Husson men’s and women’s soccer earn #2 seeds in North Atlantic Conference Tournament

In Castine on Saturday afternoon, the Husson men’s and women’s soccer teams finished up their regular season against Maine Maritime Academy and each Eagles club earned a first round bye, a #2 seed, and at least one home game in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament. The Eagles women’s team would tie with the Mariners 1-1, while the men came away with a 4-2 win.

In the women’s game- Paige Dunn scored the opening goal in the 68th minute for the Eagles, before Hadley Stoddard tallied her 18th of the season just over six minutes later for the Mariners as the contest ended in a draw. Madison Weigler made two saves in the Husson net, while Isa Thesing had six stops for Maine Maritime. The Mariners end up as the #3 seed with a record of 10-6-1 and 6-2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference, and will host #6 Thomas College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday evening.

In the men’s game- The Eagles never trailed and bolted out to a 3-0 lead in defeating the Mariners. Miguel Diaz Alvarez had two goals including the game winner for Husson. Chadi Hamadi and Jakob Reichl had the other tallies, while Liam Mason (Greenville) made four saves in net. John-John Dickenson has both goals for Maine Maritime, and Kole Wayman made five stops in net. The Mariners finish their regular season as the #4 seed with a record 6-4-5 and 4-2-3, and will host #5 UMaine-Farmington in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night.

Husson women’s soccer (11-5-2, 7-0-2 in the NAC) will play the winner of Maine Maritime Academy and Thomas College in the semifinals next Saturday in Bangor with a time to be announced. Husson men’s soccer (7-8-4, 7-1-1 in the NAC) will play the winner of SUNY Delhi and Lesley University in the semifinals next Saturday in Bangor with a time to be announced.
