Husson got out to a 19-point first half lead on Monday night, and rolled to a 113-90 season opening non-conference men’s basketball win over the University of Maine-Fort Kent at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor.
Four players scored in double figures in the loss for the Bengals (1-3), led by Sam Williams who had 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals (12-15 free throws). Connor Heald led four Eagles in double figures with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Eric Ahlers recorded a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Andre McCauley and Christian Smith each put in 12 points. McCauley had five assists, while Smith chipped in five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Freshman guard Pierce Walston (Orono) playing in his first regular season collegiate game nearly had a triple-double as he had 11 rebounds and 10 assists to go along with seven points and two steals. Husson will host Saint Joseph’s College on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the eighth annual Alumni Cup rivalry game.
