The University of Maine men’s and women’s cross country teams finished their season on Friday at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
The Maine men’s team finished their 10k race at 23rd out of 38 teams, led by Charlie Collins (Hampden Academy) who finished 27th out of 263 runners with a time of 30:14.7. Kyle McClellan came in at 124th (31:29.7), and Harrison Grenier finished at 130th (31:33.9). Hofstra freshman Fredrick Kipkosgei won the took first at 29:12.7, but Syracuse took the team title to advance to the NCAA Championships in Columbia, Missouri on November 22nd.
The Black Bears women’s team would place 15th out of 37 schools in their 6k race. Helen Shearer (Hampden Academy) was 41st out of 251 competitors at 20:52.0, Ruby Krasnow was 60th (21:03.0), and Veselja Treacy was 77th (21:18.9). Charlotte Richman of Army took the top spot with a time of 29:12.7, but the regional host Boston College won the team title to advance to Missouri.
