Smith helps to lead Maine women’s basketball to first win of the season

Adrianna Smith had 26 points and 13 rebounds, recording a double double in the first half alone on Monday night as Maine women’s basketball picked up their first win of the 2025-26 season by taking down the Stonehill College Skyhawks 79-53 on Skip Chappelle Court at Memorial Gymnasium in Orono.

Stonehill (2-2), out of the Northeast Conference, committed 22 turnovers in the loss. They were led by Brooke Paquette who had 13 points, while Bella Mallory had 12. It was a homecoming for Skyhawks freshman guard Ella Pelletier. The 2024-25 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year out of Oxford Hills had eight points (2-3 three-pointers), while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists in 26 minutes.

10 players got on the scoresheet for Maine, as the Black Bears outscored Stonehill 27-11 in the third quarter to pull away. Smith added four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot to her totals shooting 10-15 from the floor and 5-5 from the free throw line. Asta Blauenfeldt had 13 points, while also chipping in five steals and four assists. Former Miss Maine Basketball junior Lizzy Gruber (Gardiner) had her best stat line so far on the season by putting in 13 points (6-10 field goals), while also contributing four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Maine is now 1-3 and will travel to Rhode Island to take on Brown University on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
