Gio Staples rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for 107 yards and two touchdowns in leading Westbrook to a 40-20 state championship win over Cony. Staples received 2205 votes, while Connor Ayoob from Thornton Academy finished with 949 votes. Other names were Jacob Feith from Winthrop and Noah Allen from Greely.
Staples is the first student/athlete from Westbrook High School to earn athlete of the week honors.
