The University of Maine women’s basketball team put four players in double figures, and would pull away from St. Francis (NY) 69-46 in the third place game of the Iona Turkey Tip-off played at the Hynes Athletics Center in New Rochelle, NY on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Bears only trailed once about halfway through the first quarter, but built a 31-23 lead at the break and then outscored the Red Flashes (0-8) 38-23 in the second half (including 22-12 in the third period) to record their second win of the season. Adrianna Smith had a triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and four blocked shots. Kaliyah Sain added 12 points, while Asta Blauenfeldt and Sarah Talon each contributed 10 points.
Maine (2-5) now returns home to host Boston University on Monday night at 6 p.m. on Skip Chappelle Court at Memorial Gymnasium in Orono. The game will be a homecoming for Terriers junior guard Bella McLaughlin, who played at Hampden Academy.
