Maine men’s basketball drops to 0-10 with a loss at Ohio University

Ohio University went on an 12-2 run that stretched early into the second half on Wednesday night, and would pull away from Maine 79-57 in a men’s basketball non-conference game played at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.

The Bobcats outrebounded the Black Bears 44-28 (20-10 on the offensive glass), and had three players in double figures led by Javan Simmons who had 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists. JJ Kelly added 14 points and six rebounds, and Jalen Breath contributed 13 points and seven boards. Ohio, out of the Mid-American Conference, snaps their five game losing streak in improving to 2-6. Keelan Steele had 14 points for Maine, while Logan Carey had 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. TJ Biel put in eight points, and Ace Flagg had four points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 20 minutes as the team falls to 0-10 on the season. Maine will play at Miami of Ohio on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Redhawks are 7-0. This is the worst 10 game start for the Black Bears since they started 2014-2015 at 1-9. That season they lost 13 straight and was at 1-18 before their second victory. They also started the 2013-14 campaign at 1-9.
