PCHS boys basketball get win over Schenck

Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) started quick and rallied in the second half to get a 57-48 win over Schenck at Guilford on Saturday night.

Finn Goulette sparked a 10-0 run to start the game. The freshman had 5 three-pointers in the contest including three long ones in the first quarter, as the Pirates sprinted to an 18-6 lead after the first eight minutes.

The Pirates outscored Schenck 14-13 in the second quarter to take a 32-19 halftime advantage. PCHS hit 6 three-pointers in the first half as Goulette made four and Brady Gaw made two.

The Wolverines and Gage Brown came out firing in the second half. Brown had 14 points in the third quarter as Schenck took their first lead of the game. PCHS took a 41-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter sparked by a Noah Kain three-pointer. Schenck scored the first nine points of the final period to take a 46-41 lead. Chase Lander nailed a three pointer to cut the deficit to 46-44, before Brayden Osborne responded with a hoop for Schenck to make it 48-44.

The Pirates went on to score the final 13 points of the game sparked by a Kain three-pointer that gave the Pirates a lead (49-48) with 3:16 remaining.

Goulette led the Pirates with 15 points and eight rebounds. Lander filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Gaw had 12 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Kain had 12 points (10 in second half) and five rebounds. Lander was named the Dirigo Nutrition player of the game. PCHS (2-0) will host Penquis on Tuesday.

Brown scored a game high 20 (17 in second half) points for the Wolverines. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Osborne had 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Schenck (0-1) will play their home opener on Saturday, December 13th against Penobscot Valley.
