In East Corinth on Tuesday evening, Brady Gaw scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half including a game winning basket with about 37 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as PCHS boys basketball pushed past Central 56-54.
The Pirates, after trailing for most of the first three quarters, would grab a five point lead with about 1:45 left thanks to four 3-pointers (two by Noah Kain). The Red Devils rallied and would tie it 53-53 when Carter Sheaff nailed a three-pointer with just over one minute remaining. Central had a chance to take back the lead with 50 seconds to go, but after grabbing an offensive rebound after a missed shot, the putback attempt by Daniel Dyer was blocked by Gaw. The senior guard then took it the length of the court and into the lane where he banked it in off the glass to give his team the lead for good. The Pirates and Red Devils would both go 1-2 from the line in the final seconds, and with 3.9 seconds showing on the clock Central had one more opportunity having to go the length of the court, but Kain intercepted the long distance pass to end it.
Central had four players in double figures in the loss, led by Tyson Kneeland who had 13 points. Alex Withee added 12 points, while Dyer and Aiden Gregory had 11 and 10 respectively. The Red Devils (3-5) will be at Sumner on Saturday afternoon. Finn Goulette also finished in double figures in the PCHS win, as he had 13 points (11 in the second half including three 3-pointers). Kain and Chase Lander chipped in seven points a piece. The Pirates (5-2) will stay on the road and take on undefeated Valley (7-0) on Friday night, a contest that can be seen on Eastern Maine Sports Media with the pregame coverage beginning at approximately 6:15 p.m.
